The Medallion, could be of interest to a variety of people. It is an interesting story for a person that just wants to be entertained by a good western read. A traveler finds the remains of a friend at Lake De Smet, Dakota Territory which causes his mind to take him back along the path that led him to that point and place in his life. The history buff might enjoy comparing their knowledge with that mentioned in the book, as that path takes him back to a time before and after the Civil War. Those that question the control of big government can find areas in the book to sink their teeth into also as he continues on across what is now the state of Wyoming. This trip takes him through fights with both outlaws and Indians to the southwest corner of Wyoming where perhaps we end his story, or perhaps we don’t.
My desires for the book are multiple. First and foremost is that my readers might enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Second is that it be a catalyst to spur people to visit historical places and enjoy the nature God has given us. Third, that some might see a bit of the pain and suffering that has been brought about by both greed and big government and learn to fight against those things. Lastly, that some might learn, as I have, to look past what we are taught that they might find the truths that lay beyond. GPS units are fast finding their way to much of the traveling public. Adding the coordinates to places of interest mentioned in the book can lead to anything from day trips to a journey of thousands of miles. State tourist facilities might even be interested in this part of the book.

W. C. Dick grew up into the trucking business in Wyoming and started driving them at the age of 14. He has traveled over most of the U. S. by both trucks and motorcycles. He has raced both motorcycles and stock-cars, and owned a motorcycle dealership. Mr. Dick has a bachelor’s degree in Human Services and worked for a few years as a mentor and advocate for kids and families. While working toward his degrees he developed an interest in writing and has written articles for a couple of magazines. Though this story was written a few years ago, semi-retirement has allowed the pursuit of publication for this book and a continuation of his writing career.

Outstanding, imaginative, engrossing tale of the link between a Medallion and the people it blessed (or cursed): a mountain man, a Civil War soldier, Shoshone and Sioux Indians, and others. The story begins at Lake DeSmet in Wyoming and, living in Wyoming, I can say the narrative was dead on in time, place, and historical fact. The author visited the historical sites and provides a list of the GPS coordinates. Fascinating.
